Best Director Academy Award winner
Martin Scorsese and Best Actor nominee Leonardo DiCaprio

Immediately following the telecast of the 79th Academy Awards®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted the Governors Ball at the Grand Ballroom of the Hollywood & Highland Center®.

Oscar winners, nominees, telecast participants and Academy guests joined Ball Chair Cheryl Boone Isaacs and Academy President Sid Ganis to celebrate the film achievements of 2006.

Best Actress Academy Award winner
Helen Mirren

The Ball, produced by Cheryl Cecchetto of Sequoia Productions, allowed guests to mix, mingle and dine at their leisure. Guests entered beneath a wrought iron archway that spanned the width of the ballroom. The archway and five decorative pergolas were lined with a living canopy of woven vines, flowers and ivy evoking the rich and vibrant textures of the Tuscan countryside.

For the 13th consecutive year, Wolfgang Puck and his team developed a menu specifically for the event. The Academy's 1,500 guests enjoyed miso-glazed cod, lobster tempura, chicken breast and truffle risotto, and several Ball favorites, including smoked salmon pizzas with caviar and chocolate Oscars®, in an elegant supper party atmosphere.
