Katharine Hepburn celebrated her sixth career nomination portraying Jane Hudson in David Lean’s Academy Award-nominated Summertime. Based on the Arthur Laurents' play The Time of the Cuckoo, Summertime tells the story of a middle-aged, unwed secretary on her first trip abroad to Venice. When she meets the handsome Renato De Rossi, an antiques dealer, her outdated ideals of romance are called into question and Jane succumbs to the allure of an Italian affair. But will this give her the fulfillment that she secretly desires?
