Reference Assistance
The Margaret Herrick Library is a specialized research library devoted to motion pictures. If you have questions about the library and its collections, or need assistance with motion picture-related research, you can query our reference staff:
In Person:
The library is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m Tuesdays.
Reference staff is available during those hours to assist you in doing your own research. Please be aware that materials in the library do not circulate; items are not loaned out under any circumstances.
By Telephone: Brief factual queries may be directed to the library's Telephone Reference Service. This service is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific Time. The telephone number is (310) 247-3020. Callers are limited to three to five minutes per call. Please make your questions as specific as possible.
By E-mail: Brief factual queries may also be handled via e-mail. Please be aware that an e-mail response may take up to three business days (excluding weekends). We will provide information or referrals only; photocopies and photographic reproductions of library materials can only be requested in person at the library or through the National Film Information Service (where applicable). If you would like to submit an e-mail query, please use the linked form.
By Regular Mail: The National Film Information Service is available to those outside of Southern California who are in need of more in-depth research. This is a fee-based service handled through regular mail.
