Hal Wallis
Hal Wallis

The photograph series of the Hal Wallis papers spans the years 1900–1979 and encompasses 4.3 linear feet. The series consists of 5,667 items, including black-and-white and color photographic prints, black-and-white and color negatives, snapshots, postcards, color slides, contact sheets, group portraits, and frame enlargements. The photographs are grouped into motion picture production photographs, biography photographs, and subject photographs.

The motion picture production photographs span the years 1927–1975 and consist of scene, off-camera, color wardrobe reference, set reference, advertising art, frame enlargement, location research (color and black-and-white), color production design drawing, unidentified production, and premiere photographs and contact sheets; color slides; and negatives (color and black-and-white). The material is arranged alphabetically by film title. Among the titles depicted are Anne of the Thousand Days (1969), Come Back, Little Sheba (1952), Footlight Parade (1933), G.I. Blues (1960), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), Little Caesar (1931), Mary, Queen of Scots (1971), The Rose Tattoo (1955), The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946), and Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942).

The biography photographs span from the 1920s to 1979 and consist of prints (color and black-and-white), portraits, family photographs, group portraits, snapshots, postcards, negatives, and transparencies. The material is arranged alphabetically by name. Persons depicted include James Cagney, Charles Chaplin, Bette Davis, Cecil B. DeMille, Errol Flynn, Al Jolson, Elvis Presley, Mickey Rooney, Elizabeth Taylor, Irving Thalberg and Darryl F. Zanuck.

The subject photographs span from the 1930s to the 1960s and consist of prints, snapshots (color and black-and-white), group portraits, negatives, and contact sheets. The material is arranged alphabetically. Subjects include awards, press conferences, residences, Wallis golfing and fishing in various countries, studio functions, parties, and contract signings.
