Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards were presented by Academy Award-nominated actress Kate Hudson.

Actress Kate Hudson presented the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards on March 1, 2003, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Three Oscar® statuettes were among the 14 awards presented at the gala black-tie dinner. Alias/Wavefront received an Oscar for developing "Maya," a 3-D animation, modeling and rendering production tool. Oscars® were presented to Arnold & Richter Cine Technik and to Panavision Inc., for the two companies' continuing advancements in camera systems designed for the film industry.

Portions of this presentation were taped for inclusion in the March 23 Academy Awards® broadcast.

Scientific and Technical Awards are presented by the Academy for devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value to the arts and sciences of motion pictures.
