Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal presented the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards on Saturday, February 10, at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills.

Among the 15 awards that Gyllenhall presented during the ceremony was the Academy’s Gordon E. Sawyer Award, an Oscar statuette, which was bestowed on Ray Feeney for his lifetime of technological contributions to the industry.

Awards Administration Director Rich Miller said that unlike other Academy Awards, achievements receiving Scientific and Technical Awards do not have to have been developed and introduced during 2006. “The achievement can be a device or a discovery, a formula or a method, but it must demonstrate a proven record of contributing significant value to the process of making motion pictures,” Miller said.

Segments of the Scientific and Technical Awards presentation will be shown during the 79th Academy Awards® telecast.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®. The Oscars® will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST), beginning with a half-hour red carpet arrivals segment, “The Road to the Oscars.”
