Each year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences seeks to recognize and honor meritorious scientific and technical achievement.  Any device, method, formula, discovery or invention of special and outstanding value in the motion picture industry may be considered.  A committee of distinguished engineers, scientists and craftsmen assists the Academy's Board of Governors in evaluating the technical advances of the past year brought to our attention through this annual canvass.

To aid the committee, we are asking you to offer any news you may have about devices or methods that have been developed in your own organization--or by others--that have been used within the motion picture industry during the calendar year.

Please be sure to review the SPECIAL RULES and INFORMATION REGARDING THE SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL AWARDS before filling out your entry form. Entries forms are only available online and must be submitted in electronic form on our website at scitech.oscars.org.

Achievements that were tabled last year for one reason or another, will be brought up for discussion again automatically this year.  New or updated information regarding those items should be sent to the Academy at this time.

Some achievements that have been submitted in prior years, and upon which the committee took no positive action, might be eligible for reconsideration if significant improvements have been made in the original design, its operational results and/or industry acceptance.

The Scientific and Technical Awards Committee will meet during the first weeks of September.  Due to restrictions of our awards timetable, any information you wish to present to the committee must be received no later than Thursday, July 31, 2008.  Replies to this inquiry should be addressed to:
